WInter Party!! It is Time to Celebrate Winter!

We will be having our Winter party on Thursday, December 19 at 3:15pm. If you have signed up to bring something please be sure to have it to school by 12 noon on Thursday. Thanks for your help and generosity. 

Holidays Around the World

On Wednesday, December 18 we will be spending the day exploring Holidays Around the World. Students will rotate around to 4 different classrooms and explore how 4 other countries celebrate different holidays around this time of year.

As I prepare to return to school after Thanksgiving break I just want to take a moment and tell you how thankful I am for your children. I feel truly honored and blessed to get to teach your child each and everyday. I am thankful for each and every one of them and the joy they bring to my life.

Family Advocacy Conferences

Please be looking for your FAS conference conformation that will be coming home in your child's purple folder on Monday. If for any reason you cannot attend your conference at the assigned time let me know as soon as possible. I am looking forward to meeting with each of you!!

PTA

Please consider joining are PTA. The PTA at Hazel Grove is a wonderful way to work with other parents and teachers to do wonderful things at Hazel Grove. You will be receiving a membership form in your child's purple folder today return the form and $5 to join. The PTA will be meeting tomorrow evening Tuesday, September 17th at 6pm.

Also you will be receiving a flyer/pledge sheet for our Hazel Grove Elementary Walk-A-Thon that the PTA sponsors which will be held on Friday, October 4, 2013 from 5-7pm.

Coins for Kids

Hazel Grove is raising money for Children's Mercy Hospital. Students, staff, and parents are being asked to donate their spare change. The class that raises the most money will be rewarded with a pizza party! We'll be collecting from now until Friday, September 27th. Bring in those coins!!!

Kindergarten Parent Meeting

You are invited to attend the kindergarten parent meeting on Monday, September 9 from 6:30-7:15. I am looking forward to discussing the expectations for this year and answering any questions you may have.

Welcome Hazel Grove Kindergarten Parents and Students!

I am so excited to be beginning another school year at Hazel Grove Elementary! As you can see this is our classroom blog. I hope that this will become yet another way for us to communicate throughout the school year. I will update this blog weekly to remind you of upcoming events and inform you of any weekly news. Shoe Tying

Unfortunately, with all the learning we have to do at school I do not have time to teach your child how to tie their shoes. I am finding that many students are getting hurt because their shoes are not tied and this is a safety issue. Please take the time to work with your child and help them learn to tie their shoes a skill they will use the rest of their lives.

School Rules

Spring is a very fun time of year for both students and teachers. At this time of the school year we have many fun activities such as Measuring with Moms, Spring Musical and Field Day just to name a few. It is also the time of year when we are taking end of the year assessments, too. It is a very, very important time of year for fun and celebration but also time to finish up the learning we have done throughout the year.

During this time of year students become excited and antsy so it very important that students are in control for many reasons. Please take the time to remind your child how important it is to follow the school rules, be a good listener and to always do their best at school.

I have enjoyed being your child's teacher this year and I am looking forward to wrapping this year up in the month to come.

Hazel Grove Night at McDonald's

Come join myself and the rest of the Hazel Grove family at McDonald's on Wednesday, April 10th from 4:00-8:00PM!! McDonald's will donate 20% of all sales from 4-8pm to Hazel Grove!! We look forward to seeing you at McDonald's located at 7530 State Avenue Wednesday night.

Hazel Grove Night at Wendy's!!

Come join myself and the rest of the Hazel Grove family at Wendy's on Thursday, April 4 from 5:00-8:00PM!! Wendy's will donate 10% of all sales from 5-8pm to Hazel Grove!! We look forward to seeing at the Wendy's located at 7807 Parallel Parkway Kansas City, Kansas Thursday night.

Homework and Spring Break Work

Please make note that students are bringing home a packet that is for their homework this week and for them to complete throughout Spring Break. Students should complete the packet and return it on Monday, March 25 to receive a prize. Also don't forget to log the books you read over spring break March is last month you can receive a pizza coupon for Book-It.

Reading Celebration Week

We will be celebrating reading all this week at Hazel Grove Elementary!! Below you will see what we will be doing each day to celebrate reading:

Monday-We will have a visit from a Storyteller!

Tuesday-We will have a guest reader come and read to us!

Wednesday-DEAR-Drop Everything and Read! Be sure to wear your pjs, a pillow and great book to read today!!

Thursday-Dress up as your favorite character.

Family Literacy Night is Canceled

Due to the bad weather and snow day we have canceled the Family Literacy Night at Coronado Middle School. We will reschedule at a later date.

Family Literacy Night

Come and join us for a great night of learning!! We will be sharing some fun literacy activities you can do at home with your child. Literacy night will be held at Coronado Middle School from 6-8 and dinner will be served.

Purple Folders

Students will bring home purple folders on Tuesday, January 29 this week. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. Unfortunately, my family and myself have been sick and I missed school today to stay home with my sick child. I took home the purple folders to work on them this weekend and due to the illness of my daughter I was unable to come into work and bring the folders. Please look for your child's purple folder on Tuesday and also make note that your Family Advocacy Conference time is in your child's purple folder. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you for your understanding with this matter.

Parent Math Night

Parent Math Night will be on Thursday, January 24 from 6-8 at Coronado Middle School. We look forward to seeing you!!

Pennies for Pasta

Don't forget to bring all your pennies and other change for Pennies for Pasta!!! All change collected goes to help sick kids. The class who collects the most wins a pasta dinner catered by Olive Garden!!

Family Advocacy Day!!

Hopefully, you received the form to sign up for your Family Advocacy Conference on Wednesday, February 6th or Thursday, February 7th. If you have not please let me know as soon as possible so I can get you another one.
